We finally made it back down to Tawakoni today. My youngest son Jacob just finished his Junior semester at UNT Dallas last week. He had asked me a month or so ago about getting back down to Tawakoni since we had a fantastic trip in January with Matt. So I ran into Matt Cartwright at the Moes Tackle garage sale and asked him if he had any dates open. I was real lucky, he just had one left and I took it. And today was the day! Needless to say as usual I was worried about the weather. The winds have been kind of tough lately. All of the talk about storms and the horrible tragedy in Oklahoma and in Texas. Our prayers are with everyone in these storm areas. Well we get to the ramp early at 5:45 for a 6:00 launch. Matt is already setup and waiting to go. Surprisingly there is almost no wind. So we head out to the first stop. Get there and just hang out and talk for a few minutes as we wait for the sun to get a little higher and for the action to come on. We didnt have to wait long. It started as a few surface pops then it built until it was a full game on acres of boiling sandies and hybrids. We had a 2 man limit of MAGNUM Sandies in about an hour as well as 12 or so hybrids that were all released. There were only a couple of boats, so we didnt have any jack wagons driving through them with the big motors on. It was definitely the way to start the day right. We then went looking for some big ones. Didnt get too far and ran into another big group of schoolers. They were big sandies too, so we left them biting. Got to the third spot did some looking around and a found a few big ones drifting. Picked up a couple nice hybrids there and real nice eater blue cat. By this time someone turned the wind switch on and man it started white capping and blowing good so we headed back to some areas a little more out of the wind. Well if it were me driving it would have been just dumb luck, but I think Matt whispered them up. As we were pulling into an area to look around all of a sudden we were in the middle of a huge school of big hybrids. They just went nuts all around us. It was game on real solid. We had doubles and triples on, what a blast! I dont have any idea of how many hybrids we caught, but it was a lot. We were getting them on and off as quickly as we could so we could get another one on. Most were net fish though. Needless to say Jacob and I had another fantastic trip with Matt. I really appreciate it since I will not get to fish with Jacob again until his break after the summer session. If you have not had a chance to book a trip with Matt Cartwright 214-415-0166 get on it before all the dates are filled. Tawakoni is on fire right now!

WTG! Catching fish is always fun, but catching fish with your son on Matt's boat is priceless!
The pursuit (where are the fish), rigs design and setup, scouting, the awesome feeling of casting your rigs 100+ yards out, the total focus on the fish and the elements, the outdoors... the total exhaustion at the end of your fishing day,... the cooler full of fish to bring home... Yeah, I'm going to miss bank fishing!

Great report Jeff! Just the way you always hope it turns out and a great way to spend time with your son. I got to spend a few days on Tawok with my son John a few weeks ago. He was home on leave (USAF)before he left for Germany. Memories for a lifetime!
