Howdy! I just wanted to introduce myself! My name is Cassie and not only am I new to the TFF, but also to fly fishing. My dad is an avid fly fisher, so I am hoping to learn about the sport and join him on the water! I am located in College Station, so I wanted to ask if anyone knew of any fly fishing clubs in the area. I am eager to learn and I think talking to others would help I look forward to joining the community! Thanks & Gig'em! Cassie

To the TFF although I cant help you out with your question maybe someone will chime in here shortly who can. And WELCOME to the addiction - if there is an Orvis near you they have casting classes, if not hit up your local fly shops if there is one.

Take a look at the Texas Fly Fishing Councel website, they are adding all the clubs information on there.

Welcome Cassie. There are a number of other Aggies here and a bunch of other great folks who are always happy to help. Back in the day, there was a local fly club - the Brazos Valley Fly Fishers. We used to have some fun outings. Lots of great places to fish out that way. Shout if you need some suggestions.

Howdy Ag,
Keep an eye out for "Hookline&sinker". He's the infamous Ben Tedrick and runs the Brazos Valley Fly Fishers. I'm an Aggie myself. I'd take you to some of my local spots, but I got a job in Richardson (Dallas) a few months back and had to leave the Promised Land. PM me if you're interested, and I can point you in the right direction.

I don't catch to many fish. But I would deffinatly follow suggestions to a local club if you want to learn. You can always get a lot of answers on here as far as trouble shooting and even general spots. What kind of fly fishing set up are you useing right now,as far as rod and line? I for one am not a believer in high end fly reels smooth drag is all I look for. Rod and line on the other hand can make a big difference. Look forward to seeing your post.

Welcome aboard and gig em!
Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

Just watch out for that Texas Red Raider!!! Would you at least let me have the honor of making my own bad first impression? Welcome to the weirdness, AggieCassie.
