Just a thought, locking up something basically does NOTHING to prevent theft. Ask the folks at Fork who own lakehouses that aren't always occupied. If someone WANTS to steal something, breaking in somewhere usually isn't an issue. Yea it may prevent the crimes of opportunity, but at these lakes, the thefts are usually more calculated and not and opportunistic thing.

I should be able to put a gold bar on top of my boat cover and not worry about it.
Thieves are like terrorists, they are successful in making some worry and change their lives out of fear. I'm not going to let them change my life. If something is easy to do for more protection then I will, I'm not going too much out of my way though. If I catch them in the act they are dead. If I'm not around then my game cam might get a picture. Otherwise buy another and insurance might help a little. Life goes on and be happy.

Here is my security system on my boat.
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know when to go fishing.

I have a bar that goes across my deck(telescopes out and locks into the inserts in the hull and you put a pad lock on it) and keeps my rod boxes locked up... It's nice... Especially for a motel stay or something... So if you are away from your rig you don't have to worry about rods getting stolen... As for electronics I remove them ALWAYS!! I hate to say this because it'll probably make your worry...but that locker bar isn't a fail proof deal. All they have to do is to unhook the winch line from your boat, attach it to the locker bar and crank on it. It will put enough pressure on the bar to bow it in the middle causing it to come out of the holes on the sides. Sounds like you have done that before Yep, I break 'em all the time. You should see the collection of rods and reels I have. They were all free but none of them match. That's the worst part about stealing stuff...nothing matches. It doesn't take a genius to be a thief. A little common knowledge of mechanics goes a long ways. Thievs can get into anything they want, its about keeping the honest people honest

I'm with JT & Ring Fry - its just habit with me to plug 'em in when I launch and unplug 'em before I leave the ramp. I picked up an old laptop case at Goodwill that both of mine fit in along with the ram mounts, makes it a little easier to pack around. I was more worried about the vibration and wear & tear going down the road than theft....

And how many times has it been proven that you can not get enough leverage with the winch strap to bend the bar and pull it out??????? Same old rumor gets started every time. Not to say the bar is absolutely fool proof but it takes more than cranking on the winch strap.

A local fiberglass shop did the winch strap experiment on a Loc-R-Bar and it was not possible. In addition Loc-R-Bar had a standing cash offer to anyone that could provide pix, proof or any data that it was possible. as far as I know they never had to pay out.

What you choose to believe is certainly up to you. I already have one on my boat. I am quite comfortable in knowing that it is an excellent deterrent to someone attempting to break into my boat.

No becasue it does not work but this rumor always comes up. Why would a crook do that anyway when he can just cut the lock. They can get into anything and the locker bar just makes it a bit tougher but well worth the money. A fiberglass shop proved that the winch thing does not work as they tried it and could not do it so lets stop spreading BS rumors

Thats a good question. "How many times has it been proven you can not bend the bar with the winch strap"? Well...how many times has it been proven? Honestly, has it ever actually been proven fact or fiction or just another "wives tale"?

NOTHING is foolproof, but if I have one and the guy parked next to me don't, guess whos more likely to get ripped off (unfortunately). I CANT STAND THIEVES.
