While we're on this subject, can you get duplicates made at any key shop, or is this more of a marine dealer type thing?

I have tried to get a spare ignition key made for my boat, but none of my local hardware stores had the right blank...

Authorized service centers for your model will have a set of keys; they will try them until they find the correct one. It is not like car keys, only a few combinations of keys for each manufacture. Once they find the correct one they will probably have to order your replacements.

I will tell you how to not loose your key. Put a good strong key ring on the key and attach a short length of chain and screw the chain into the boat with a good screw. A drunk friend of mine lost the keys to the boat at lake Guerrero in Mexico and really messed up our trip. Every boat that I have had since has had the key chained to the boat. You have to learn from mistakes.
