So here is the situation....a very good friend of mine who I met when I lived in East Texas says there aren't any big fish in Texas. He is from Minnesota and will be moving back to Texas soon. I know there are big fish here.....I just need to show him that there are. I am taking a week of vacation in the end of June and want to get on some big fish. Specifically catfish and gar. I know the Trinity River is a great place to go but I don know where to go.

Guys, please help me show this northerner that we have big fish. I am lookin to go in the DFW metroplex or Longview area or in between.

Thanks in advance guys.

I have spent many hours feeding many different species of fish.........and on occasion land a few.

The pursuit (where are the fish), rigs design and setup, scouting, the awesome feeling of casting your rigs 100+ yards out, the total focus on the fish and the elements, the outdoors... the total exhaustion at the end of your fishing day,... the cooler full of fish to bring home... Yeah, I'm going to miss bank fishing!

I have never fished there, my job keeps me in Oklahoma 5-6 days a week so most of my fishing is close to home...(Arlington)

oh boy! you don't fish much at all, do you? obviously, you don't know water bodies in your backyard, either... the same guy who won the flattie tourney last weekend with a 57lb flattie caught LW blue catfish record last November if I remembered correctly, a wobbling 62lber! If you're looking for someone to tell you the exact spot to catch your monster fish,.... good luck! bolt

No I don't, just for information purposes I works 146.5 hours last week. Most of that was north of Oklahoma City. I am lucky to he at home 1 night a week. So your statement is correct. I am not looking for a secret spot or even technique.....just an area of a lake or park if possible. I am not a competitive fisherman, not gonna steal anyone's place on the leader boards.

send a PM to LakeLass, she just posted two blue catfish "honey holes" on Lake grapevine in the catfish section, and she did posted two spots on Lake Ray Hubbard earlier... One word of advice, It's fishing! No one can guarantee you to catch a big fish, not even on a guide boats... the so call "honey holes" are usually hard bottom segments/points of lake shore that fish come to chase bait fish at certain time of the day or season.... Take your chance, it's call fishing! fish

fyi, 146.5 hrs / week ==>> 20.93 hours/24 hour day...you had 3 hours to eat, shower, pee, or poop, etc. per day for the last 7 days. No sleep for 168 hours straight is at the extreme endurance limitation of the human body.... or this is pure B.S.??? noidea

I get paid to sleep, the hours I turn in are not all what is typically considered work. I get paid from the time I leave my home until I get home again. Gotta love the oilfield. I am usually gone 4-15 days at a time with no set day off schedule. I usually do t know about a day off u till late the day before or the morning of.

Ah, I see, hard working man! cheers
LakeLass's post about the honey holes on sought side of Lake Grapevine is gone... but you can use Bing or Google maps and search "Paradise Cove Resort" address:
3029 Midway Road
Southlake, TX 76092

One point is directly behind the resort, the other fishing spot on the other side of paradise cove is on Snakey Rd that you must enter thru a park. these are good spots for Northern wind.

When wind is from the South, the other two spots that LakeLass posted on Lake Ray Hubbard are good (the old marina at Robertson park on the north side of I-30) http://texasfishingforum.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/topics/8952489/5

just scroll down to find LakeLass's post, she posted a map with the two red stars for fishing spots...Now is good season for flathead catfish, live perch or blue gills for flatie, cut gizzard shad for blue catfish!...Good luck!

the far point at Little Ridge Park (by the power plant) and Dam area on Lake Lavon are also good catfish spots. Cast into the current. The is also a point at an old park near an abandoned boat ramp just two miles north of the power plant, is also a good catfishing spot (use google map). At the north end of Lavon is Brockdale park which open 24/7, is also good catfishing spot for eater size catfish.

One time at Brockdale Park, I gave a palm size gizzard shad to a guy that followed me around while I was throwing my castnet for baits, asking me all kind of questions... I cut the shad in three pieces, baited the head and middle section on two of his poles, and he walked down with the first pole with shad head to chest deep and throw it out toward main lake as far as he could... while he was walking his pole back, he was yanked backward... it took him almost 5 minutes to reel in the blue catfish, looked to be a 35lber... the guy grabbed the catfish, hoisted it up his shoulder and keep walking to his car, put it in the trunk, came back to thank me, took his poles, and drove home, with a big grin on his face! That was at the point near the mouth of the cove that has some shallow timbers. True story!

LOL Lass, he was trying to show his northern friend Texas big fish, now you might send them up north for some spoonbill snaggin' instead. grin
