I made it up to the OK side of Texoma again this past week and it was AWESOME! I started fishing as soon as the storm/rain passed on Thursday, the bite was immediately on. I picked up a sandie and a quick striper/hybrid(not sure) within the first few casts. Then as the day went on I got into about 15 of these:

I also picked up about 8 of these, all around 2lbs.

BTW, can someone tell me if that is a striper or hybrid?

Then as a boat was approaching, he had been fishing the banks and was headed my way. I decided to cast to my left down the bank and this monster hooked on!! Sounded like a bass drum vibrating on my line! This is my first smallie, so I had no idea about their power. It ended up being close to a 4lb'er!!
So technically, I guess it's my personal best!

I was giddy all day(about 4 hours of fishing) and to finish my day off I hooked up with this beauty!

I had been so determined to only hook stripers/hybrids that I forgot how much fun largemouths were.

Thanks for reading!

Striper - body height less than 1/3 the length - distinct unbroken lines.

That's a nice smallie......and excellent for your first. Trust me, the smallies can become an addiction. Congrats.

Awesome fish and great combo you got there.
Is that Abu Garcia Combo in the first pic and Okuma on the second pic?

Thanks 1/32! They're actually both Abu combos. The first one is the Orra S30 with a Vendetta rod<--awesome! The other is a Hank Parker Special from Walmart. I needed another spinning combo, but didn't want to spend much since I fish mainly from the bank. It's worked out well for me. It's heavier than my Orra combo, but for $50, I can't complain. The Orra was on sale at Cabelas last week for $59, it may still be on sale.

Great day on the pond! I plan on spending a couple days fishing/camping Texoma first of the month. My son an I are fishing our way to Northern New Mexico for the trout. I never considered the OK side. Do you prefer it over the TX side?

Nooooooo.... (as the big one gets away again)

Sounds like an awesome trip Paul. I've never been to the Texas side. I was stuck going to the OK side for the past few months due to my wife's job, but that's about to change in a couple of weeks. Prob hit the tx side this fall.
