i use a size 4 treble, if i miss the fish because it couldnt get the hook in its mouth then i didnt want to catch that small of a fish anyways.

Size six is what i use and have no problems. Are you missing the bite or are they coming off after setting the hook. If missing the bite maybe your putting to much bait on it. What was the range size of fish you were catching? I have had smaller hooks lose fish because they just didnt have enough hook for the weight of the fish and just pulled out of em even when hooked deep. But with a # 6 i don't miss many. Don't know what was meant by do you hold the pole unless they are biting and your not setting the hook quick enough, which holding it would be better. Usually if not and they set the hook themselves it is belly deep lol. Just keep fishing the bite may have just been slight and they were not getting a good hold of the bait. Holding the pole in this sit. is alot better sometimes with punch bait the bite is so lite you really have to feel or see the end of the pole just move slightly. Try moving your bait up and down slowly and see if they get on better. OR TRY A BIGGER HOOK. Don't hurt to try a bigger hook. But # 6 is the recommended hook for most punch baits

I agree with the theory of too much bait.
