Hey RIO, I was kicking around the idea of going somewhere today, most likely Brushy. When are you heading out? You mind some company?

I drove out to Lost Maples State Natural Area yesterday and was THRILLED at how good the fishing was. Caught a really pretty largemouth on a #12 green gurgler I tied up the night before, and TONS of bluegill in full spawning colors on various Hare's Ear sorta nymphs I've been tying for sunfish. I'm going back out there next weekend to camp it was such a good time.

I grew up in Round Rock and always wondered how the fishing was on Brushy Creek and the San Gabriel. Never did fish either of them though. I had the poor mindset that the "real" fish were in the lakes. Kicking myself in the butt now. Next time I go visit the folks my gear is coming with me.

I typed this as I was walking out the door otherwise I would have met up with you. I fished along hairy man and for the first time in a long time had a slow day on brushy. Probably caught a dozen sun fish and 6 small bass. for the amount of water I covered and the fact I was in brushy it was a slow day for me. How did you end up

Next time I go visit the folks my gear is coming with me. when people ask me how brushy creek fishes its hard for me to explain how good it is. So this was written from Living Waters Fly Shop off there website and they do a great job describing it. http://livingwatersflyfishing.com/brushy-creek/

I went and did some recon along hairy man but no real fishing. Good thing because I realized I was walking along the private property section. I didn't stay long anyway because I lost my balance on some deadfall and fell back into some brush pretty hard. So I'm cut, scraped and stuck, but not fishy.
I forgot my wading shoes so I didn't wade but I noticed the fish were really skittish though when approached from the bank.

No, the best fish I caught were out of the creeks. I'll be going back to hit the ponds, but I'll be fishing the ponds on the next trip.
