Bowfishing is a good way to get them. The little rascals are hard to hit though.

I've heard you can catch them on flies as well. The man that told me said that they don't take it right away though. He said that they bite it and hold it in their teeth for a bit before they swallow the fly. So you have to wait before setting the hook. They also have tough mouths so you have to set the hook hard.

they are mainly vegetarians when they are small but can be caught on flies and other baits small-large. when they get big, they develop a taste for meat much like carp do. they can spawn year around in warm waters and can grow very quickly if they have what they need to do it. there are special rules on fairfield concerning harvesting them. most consider them an invasive species. just about anyone that has had them fresh will tell you they are delicious. cast netting them on fairfield and around san antonio is legal but they MUST be filleted or gutted before leaving the park.

they are already in other metro waters but have not caused any problems YET. not that i know of anyway...

Gonna tell y'all a secret...Ive caught a fair share...prob more than fair share of tilapia on weiners soaked in wd-40.... don't laugh till you go there and try it... I lived 5 miles from the lake for 7 yrs and fished it almost daily.... no expert, but did catch a lot of fish...
