Hey guys,

My lower unit is slipping out of gear at low idle. I suspect it is a worn clutch dog. Can anybody recommend an honest and good person around the Grapevine area to work on it? I can pull the unit myself to bring it to a shop. Really want a decent mechanic-- have had bad luck in the past with outboard mechanics, and would like to find somebody that I can bring business to for years to come.

Forgot to add-- if anybody has a spare lower unit long-shaft for a late 90s 200 merc, I'd also be willing to g that route and take it off your hands.

Before you drop the ca$h on a re-build or new lower try adjusting the linkage. My 96' 200 Mariner was having issues with the gears, quick call to Gunther Marine in Ft.Worth and he told me to try and adjust the linkage before I brought it in, seems they're are a tad sensitive. Sure enough it was just a hair off and after a few minutes of trial and error she was GTG. Best of luck!
