When fishing a long point that stretches out into the main lake, do you fish the flat top of the point near its end or the slope down to deeper water at the end of the point? Obviously you try and let the fish tell you, but where do you generally start from to find out?

I usually start close to the bank on the deeper side and work my way out -- just out of habit.

I usually start deep then work my way up shallow throwing up on the shallower flat/center AND off the sides. Often they will be along the sides. If you find them on the sides at a certain depth throwing ALONG the sides will keep you in the strike zone longer.

More importantly is the drop from shallow to deeper water on the sides of the point. The most productive spot will almost always have access to deeper water from the bass's more shallow feeding ground.

It may be goofy but look on Bill Dance's website. There is actually a really neat diagram that shows the basics of fishing a main lake point.
