I'm new to saltwater fishing and am looking to try the texas city dike. My first two trips down to Galveston have been a complete bust. Where are some good spots to fish along the dike and what bait were you using. I've been using Gulp! Alive shrimp on a popping cork and texas tackle factory lures. Thanks for the advice.

Look for bait and current. Using arties, even Gulp, you need to catch the fish feeding. Even though its not popular on here, I always tell people new to saltwater, take shrimp. Dead or alive works. Yes you catch trash fish, but it makes the day more barrable. Through the years I have learned to use arties more and more, but I have caught a lot of really nice fish soaking a dead shrimp or cut bait.

Agree. I always take shrimp and catch many fish with it. I used gulp at the dike and limit out in trout. Just look for bait fish an they should be there. If you want to wade try the area to the right of the dike as soon as you drive onto it. Or you can wade the left side. On the left side you will see a sand bar. Wade out there. Be CAREFULL it gets pretty ruff there. I usually fish the right side about 1 mile down.

I usually fish around the 1 mile mark and catch a few sheepshead there, but I am throwing dead shrimp.

I normally fish on the right the rough side then walk across to the calmer side and throw lures. I can here my Penns go off or watch for the rod to bend.
