Ill second the turtle it was probably a snapping turtle when it was much younger and just grew up with the tail like that or a gar when it was young although it may not be a gar bite as I don't know the body of water lol

Did you say what lake?

The tail is probably from the spawn, making a nest on rocks can be tough on it. Most Smallies spawn on pea gravel.
