Snuck out this afternoon on Lewisville to try my luck with jigs. I've been studying Ernest's posts and videos, but stuck with minnows until today. Well, first location produced a 1.5 pounder within 2 minutes. Couldn't believe it. Worked the area for awhile and pulled a 1.1 pounder 15 minutes later. The wind came up and the bite shut off completely.
Thanks Ernest!! I just joined CAT, so hopefully I can thank you in person soon.

Wtg Jerry. Stepping out of your comfort zone is hard to do. I learned minnow fishing a long time ago, and after a few good trips with jigs, the minnow store gets easier to pass right on by. First lesson I learned from another great fisherman Sac-a-lait Pat is confidence! Believe it or not it has a lot to do with it. Locating fish was another big step. And finally fishing the right depth will put you in the money. Ive heard Mr. Earnest is a great teacher also. Keep learning and one day we may be able to steer some up and coming fishermen in the right directon also.

what ken said....to add a note,i too was taught to catch crappie by using minnows in the mid 80's.i love using jigs now,but sometimes u have to give them what they want.i like having both or at least jigs that look like minnows.best of luck to u. Ken is right on! Confidence is at least as important than bait in my opinion and a positive attitude is the second most important factor chasing crappie!

I've always used heavier gear as well. Having a 9' crappie pole with 6 pound hi-vis line really made a huge difference as well. So now that I'm addicted to the "thump," swing by and say hello if you see an older blue Skeeter on the Lew. I'll be the one with huge binoculars following Ernest to see what he's doing...
