Sorry guys, I am just needing to pick your brains. I am building a 8' 10X crankbait rod. I was wondering if you guys use the front grips on your rod while you throw the big Strike King crankbait?

How can you use the front grip. One hand on the reel/thumb spool and the other on the bottom of the handle to HANG ON! hammer

Ron, I didn't know if people are fishing the big rod like a big swimbait rod where you tuck the handle in hold on to the front grip and crank. You need to come by Loving Toyota and see it when I finish building it after I get back from St. Clair next week.

I hold the reel and tuck the handle when I crank. I don't hold the front grip with my deep cranking. You asked "while we throw". Just watch the "Back-Swing" on that 8'10" rod with your partner. banana

SOunds like the partner is the one that better be watching out.

Cliff, all jokes aside. Using a rod that long could have some issues. Being that long it is gonna be cumbersom and maybe too heavy. So minimizing the front grip would be an idea to help cut down the weight. Remember it won't be like a Salmon Rod where you throw the bait and just wait. It will be continuous casting and work a person to death casting so much. Even if you use a light weight blank the thin/small diameter blanks have a flimsy feel. AND a rod that length will clear out the back of the boat!

Curious as to what rods people are throwing their 10XDs on?

I think you are reading his post wrong. He is building an 8' rod not 8' 10"
