I can't seem to get fish to eat a buzzbait. What do you look for to make you want to throw one?

I only use a buzz bait when the water has some chop in it. Early and late and I've had some success.

I like to throw a buzz bait on flats early when the gras is 6"-2' under the water.

All year. Seriously. Best time would be Oct. and Nov though, in my opinion. If you get a cloudy day, move to the back 1/3 of larger coves/creeks and throw it all day long!!

Can't we all just get along....

This^. And only on cloudy days. If the sun is shining you are probably wasting your time.

When I start catching them on my spook I will also follow it up with a buzz bait in the thicker stuff. I always have a fluke with a tiny pinch weight on the nose or nail ready for the blow ups that do not connect.
Looks like the time is now on Fork. Let me know if you need a spook to get the job done. Google Hydrilla Gorilla for the buzz bait that will just kill them.

On Fork through the years when fish are in shallow on beds and protecting fry a buzzbait is always a good choice. It just scares me to throw one fearing a broken arm or heart attack.

Any time the water temperature is above about 60 degrees you can get bit on a buzz bait. Cloudy skies (or dark) are best but don't rule them out on sunny days, especially post spawn.

My first bass over 4 lbs on Fork was caught at high noon, bluebird sky, on a buzz bait. That was 20 years ago and can't remember the last time I used one..

One of the best days I have ever had on Fork was on a buzzbait in 65 degree water up in Birch Creek. Bass were on the beds everywhere and they would run 8 feet to blast it!

This is topwater-time right now. Typically the best time to catch a bass on top is from the tail end of the spawn until June.

Many times a bass will pull out a little deeper to recuperate after spawning but will not be relating to the bottom. They may suspend near a stump or a bush. These fish will eat a Spook or a buzzbait if pulled over their heads.

And not all buzzbaits are created equally. The old Tried & True Lunker Lure is hard to beat. I like the 1/2 oz model cuz I can throw it a long way.
