With so many people catching fish on topwater I was just wondering how big some the biggest topwater catches are? I have caught some 6 lbers on frogs but nothing bigger.

I caught one on fork that measured 22 3/4 inches but I never weighed it. During dodge mega ram last year. Had to throw it back.

11.69# on a 1/2 YM
I have had a few 10-10.5# on Spro frogs

6.5 lbs on Amon Carter on a zara spook, right a daylight, 2nd cast of the day

9.5 on a chartruse buzz bait didnt even leave a ripple on the water just sucked it in.

6 lber on a frog at fork during a tournament. Sucks having to throw a fish like that back.

22 pounder on lake texoma..okay, so maybe it had a few stripes

There are plenty of double digits that come on topwaters around these parts. I haven't attributed to that, but I've been close and I've seen't it.




If I can get a topwater bite going I feel like I have the potential to catch quality fish over a lot of other techniques. Different topwater techniques can shed some of the smaller fish.. Don't be scared to throw something big out there like a full size spook. The size and pattern of working a spook or similar topwaters tends to produce a bigger bite over say, a small yellow magic. Yet, in some situations the yellow magic can out produce. Usually earlier in the season or fishing short targets for lethargic fish. For active fish - throw as big of a bait as you can get away with.

My biggest is only around 6lbs, but I saw a 11lber caught on a Chug Bug.
