How long do you guys throw a certain color worm before you change colors? I was throwing a watermelon red the other day and couldn't catch a fish. My buddy started throwing a watermelon candi and was killing them. Naturally I went to the same worm and started catching fish. If he hadn't been there I probably would have figured no fish here and moved on instead of changing worms. As I asked, when do u change worm colors?

I usually only carry a few colors so I do not change colors that much. I rarely find color, especially a different hue of the same color to be a deciding factor so I am more likely to change presentation over color. In this case seeing someone else having success, I might change. If I had to guess, the glitter in the candi was causing the reaction more than the actual color.

Ive seen times when I was catching bass and my buddy wasn't, he changed over to the exact worm and color that I was using and still wasn't catching any. He wanted to come to the front of the boat and me to the back, so we switched and he still never caught a fish and I caught around 8 or 9. We were fishing riprap rocks. So who knows...

I change like the west Texas weather. Something in this dang boat has to work... Or at least that's what I say as I'm digging thru lure boxes..

I don't usually make big changes unless I see changes in water color. Stained water gets dark colors, clearer water gets natural colors, like green pumpkin or watermelon. If I'm confident that I'm where the fish are and not catching then I'll make subtle changes.

Plastics in general I only use a few color patterns, they'll work 95% of the time.

So if color is not that big of deal what about type of worm and size? Creature bait vs senko vs curly tail etc? 10 inch worm vs 7" etc?

I use Yumm Red shad, or yumm Tequila Sunrise, and thats it.
Those are my confidence worm colors, and dont by any others.
I have 20 other colors in the box,..but for some reason never buy more of.

When the water is fairly stained, I go with black/blue, or junebug. Then what happens is I don't get bit, change to my confidence colors (green pumpkin or watermelon/red), and end up catching some fish. Maybe the secret is that you catch bass with what you keep in the water!

In memory of my childhood friend Dan Sterling, who taught me at an early age how to catch bream with a hand-line, and who unknowingly hooked me on fishing for life.

Confidence is often a deciding factor. Presentation is usually a close second. I nearly always catch more fish while using the same bait as someone else in the same boat, wether I am in the front or not.

My passion...........figuring out the fish. I don't care what I catch!

Rick Clunn would say that water displacement can have a lot to do with the bite as well. Larger bait displaces more water.......same as a bait with moving appendages. Larger baits typically produce larger fish due to the fact that the displacement signature says "big meal" to fish. Of course, bass are opportunistic feeders, and sometimes what they key on makes little to no sense at all. Cochran throws a Crankbait that is lime, and khaki, with a pink belly in the fall. I don't know of any baitfish or other forage in that color scheme, but he swears by it. If I am confident that I can throw a brush hog and catch fish, I tie on several colors and if I go to a spot I know holds fish, I alternate colors and my speed of presentation until I find out what they want. Fish are strange creatures. Good luck
