I love fishing Rainey Lake !
It borders Minnesota/Canada.

I had a guide about 5 years ago - you have to go with one that does the shore lunch - it is awesome.

I be up at Lake Vermilion the week of 4th of July. I'll be the big angry guy cursing because he can't get the muskies to bite. Its a big lake, but you'll probably hear me.

I went to the Boundary Waters (BWCA) a few years ago. Fished Gabbro, Bald Eagle, and Turtle. Walleye bite was more challenging than other species, but they sure do taste good. The walleye seem to prefer leeches. Caught quite a few small pike up there on artificials (crankbaits, spinnerbaits, and very large spinners). Hooked a HUUUUUUGGGE northern on Turtle, but she was so big my fishing buddy couldn't fit her all the way into the net and she broke the line when she fell back out of the net into the water. I swear she was as big as my leg.

The biting flies can be aggressive, so be prepared for that- especially at dawn and dusk. In Texas when it's cold there are few bugs. Don't make the mistake of thinking there won't be flies and mosquitoes just because it's cold up there. I guess their mosquitoes wear parkas.

Tip: if you're fishing for northern pike make sure you have a large net!

You can go on this forum and ask guys, they are very helpful like here for Texas:

pm me if you need walleye info.

All you need for pike are big red/white spoons and spinners.

Fishing was invented so man wouldn't get bored between turkey and dove.

I went some years ago and had a blast. We fished Bad Medicine and Lake Ottertail. Take plenty of spinners and buzz baits. Walleyes were good on leeches while trolling. Got a few nice bass on Carolina Rigged plastics. Watch washing your hands in the lake after a catch if you wear jewelry. Pike have been known to strike hands.
