My Dad took a buddy of his fishing today and the buddy breaks out some chicken breasts that he marinaded in WD40. Dad was skeptical but tried some. It had been a slow day using the chicken liver, so he figured what the heck. He caught four fish one right after the other including one 5 pounds plus.

So has anyone ever heard of this before and are there other variations of this approach that would improve the bite...?

Thanks in advance for the info.

GOAT.

Never heard anything that would prohibit it. Maybe a pollution violation. It seems to work really well, that is why I was curious if anyone else had heard of this.

Havn't used WD40 but have heard of using it several times. i just didn't like the idea od putting oil or oil based stuff in lake but then again all them boats leak all kinds of Gas, Oil, Grease into the Lakes.

Works great for the trout that TPWD stocks in the winter.

No fish is too good for the grease.

Not trying to bust chops, just sharing some info that I found:

from WD-40's corporate page
**
"What a Fish story!
Myth: WD-40 contains fish oil.
Fact:
Consumers have told us over the years that they have caught some of the biggest fish ever after protecting their fish hooks and lures with WD-40. We believe this legend came from folks assuming that the product must contain fish oil since it appears to attract fish. Sorry Charlie, it just aint so.

WD-40 Company has taken steps to respect and conserve the environment, and encourages its users to do the same. While WD-40 can be used to help protect fishing equipment from rust and corrosion, WD-40 Company does not recommend using WD-40 to attract fish."
**

Obviously they are treading lightly partially just to keep away from the EPA. Despite not having fish oil, WD-40 may in fact be a good catfish attractant (I have heard people swear by it). If you smell the stuff it definitely has a strong and distinct odor which is not particularly offensive and is made to adhere well in water. It could peaks a cats attention and lead him to your bait.
As to whether or not you should go around emptying cans of WD-40 directly into our waterways(in effect),... I'd rather you didn't ;^)
Cheers

Was Crappie fishing with an old timer one time (using minnows & spraying Baitmate fish attractant on em) and he was wearing me out, and we were fishing the same pole on the same dock, I asked whats up? he said swing that minnow over here, I did & he sprayed some of his Baitmate on it, I dropped it down & bamm! Same thing two or three more times, I said what did you do to that stuff? He opened up one of his compartments & pulled out a can of wd-40, said here, spray it into you're baitmate for 10 seconds, we caught 2 limits in just a couple of hours.
