Ive never tried flathead fishing before and I dont really know a rig to use. I know to fish with live perch but I also dont know where to catch them. I was going to try the White rock lake rip rap this weekend for channels and flatheads. Can anyone give me any tips about rigs or anything else?

U can buy Perch for $8 dozen at bait store, put it on a 3 way rig with short hook leader like 6-8" and weight leader 12-18".

You don't have to buy the bait. Go to the White Rock boat house and catch your bait, perch & brim. Panfish hooks, split shot, bits of worm or bologna (lunch meat) small crappie floats. You can have fun catching bait and fish.

I have a pretty heavy duty pole that we use for sea fishing down in the gulf. It has a pretty nice reel with 60 pound braid. Think thatll do the trick?

The flatheads are right on the vurge of spawning. They will be in the shallows around dusk to dawn heavily. I think if you find something that makes good spawning structure you should find some lurking. Good structure is explained several times in the noodling post. If there isn't much discusion on it this year, search noodling and the q&a section without 2013 in the title will pop up. there was alot of discusion on it last year.

as bait or fish for carp? confused here. He is telling you it is more of a carp lake. No one on here fishes that lake and if they do they don't speak of it. I don't think many people fish that lake hard. So, with little pressure you never know what is really lurking in that water. You could surprise us all. Good luck.

I eat lunch at the banks of White Rock from time to time over the last several years and I try to find a banker wetting his lines. I've seen some very nice channels come out and also some big carp and other scaley fish. Just haven't seen blues or flatties, but then i don't see many that are geared up for bigger cats though.

There is a population of flatheads in white rock. I have never gotten around to it, but the area by the spillway looks like it has some great potential. It may require some walking but it could pay off. Get yourself some good live bait and give it a shot!
