I carry one anchor, 10 lb mushroom, if it doesn't hold its too windy to anchor. Its also a good weight for reminding you to never drop it in water deeper than you have anchor rope.

A good rule of angling philosophy is not to interfere with another fisherman's ways of being happy, unless you want to be hated.

Most of mine came from old houses I've remodeled. If you know someone near you that remodels you might ask. Flea markets and 2nd hand junkbarns sometimes have them too. Places that sell salvaged construction items should have some, but you might pay more for them there.

I very new to this. Took my kayak out on Sun and I think I spent more time paddling and fighting the wind than fishing. I'm considering the dumbbell method and hope to get a drift sock later. Is it just some rope and a dumbbell? What is the addition of the Styrofoam on gutcheck's setup?

Native OK...Texan by choice.

I had a couple of ankle weights that were not being used. I tied them together and attached a ring to the end of the rope. I keep it tied to the anchor trolly and just pitch it over the side when I want to slow down.

I still drift some in heavy wind but it doesn't get hung up. When the wind gets too much for the anchor, it is time to pack it in.

Still learning to kayak fish with my Hobie Outback.

I forgot my anchor today, but I had extra paracord in the dry bag and grabed a rock. It got me through the day
