I would say that when conditions are perfect thats when it'll happen. You'll have a tendency to let your guard down. On the flip side when its nasty out, you're always on guard. Just try to always be mindful of the inevitable.
Last but not least...... Always know how to get back in your kayak and then execute when it counts. Ive practiced in my outback and ocean kayak but never in my PA. It took two tries to flip it over and only one try to reenter. Staying calm and reacting quickly helped to save the majority of my gear. I consider myself to be very lucky. I could've lost a lot more!

Too bad you lost your gear.. I am sure that a good set of goggles and a good deep breath will get em back. Good advise from Iconn4 , take a knife down with you. Just chalk this up as a life experience you can talk to your grandkids about.. Good luck on getting your ole rod n reel back.
I swear I caught so many fish that the water level went down!

Sorry to hear about your loss Bullet Catcher, and glad it all worked out for the good on you making it back ok. If you dont mind sharing, where did you re-entry to the PA. Was it from the Back?

Sweeeeeet..is that a 911-1 number to call?..lol I bet it's more like Life Alert where the Hobie owner wears a waterproof button around their neck that they can depress and say, "Help, I've turtled and I can't right my boat kayak!"

You turtled a PA? Were you square-dancing on it??? You can't combine you passions. Then again a double layered oak deck may not look bad on a PA.

But on a more positive note, I left my sons go pro in my truck to dry in todays heat. When i charged it after work it powered right up. So i took it fishing with me this afternoon. And then even more good news when I returned from fishing. My iPhone started working again after leaving it in my truck as well, to bake in todays heat. I set it in a bag of rice to absorb anything drawn out by the heat. And wouldn't you know, it freakin worked!!! I must be doing something right because I'm never this lucky! God is great!

I popped up directly over the middle to flip it right side up. Then thrusted over the back for reentry. It was fairly easy to do even with my pfd on but i also have youth on my side.
