After three years of kayak fishing I turtled today. What a beautiful day to do it. I started out by landing two trophy crappie and three other small 12&13 inch'ers. I just knew it was going to be a great day. I marked a new tree and doubled back. I was trying to set my marker buoy and leaned over way to much and before i knew it i was in the 69 degree water and my PA12 was turtled. The only thing injured was my pride. I've temporarily lost my net and hawg trough. But most importantly my rod and reel of 16 years. That ultralite had taken many fish from the water and had many stories of the big ones that didn't get away. As soon as it happened I knew my iPhone and go pro were done. I also thought my elite 4 DSI was a goner as well. I peddled back to the dock quickly and ran to my truck. Jumped in and went straight to barracks to get my goggles. When i got back to the spot, my marker buoy was still there so i anchored the PA to it and back in the water i went with the goggles on. I couldn't see much due to the overcast and my goggles are also tinted for the sun. So after 17 plus dives i came up empty handed and called it a day. I Quietly told my rod that i would be back with better goggles and a flashlight. On my way back in, the lowrance powered right up as soon as i reconnected the power but my phone and camera are still down for the count.

I guess the moral of this story is "Never get to confident."

I didn't think it was possible to turtle a PA. Sounds like an expensive loss. Sorry to hear about it mate.

Man I'm sorry to hear that. Glad your ok to tell it. I'm terrified to turtle and loose everything, that's a lot of overtime for me to pay for everything. Ill buy the adult frosty beverage if we ever meet.

Sorry to hear about it. Went through the same thing a couple of weeks ago with phone and camera. I'm sure you'll find the rod and reel next time out, just be careful diving and take a knife down with you.

Sorry that happened. I've read that many people permanently kill wet electronics by not letting dry out long enough. Rich

Good lessons here. Tether everything you can, protect electronics with waterproof boxes where reasonable, respect the limits of your boat. Thanks for reminders.....we always know we will turtle some time in the future, but we never think today will be the day. Glad you are ok - hope your recovery is successful. Now, I need to learn how to make sure poles aren't in the way of the rear window when it is powered up.....that was my Sunday loss.

I had just swapped out the waterproof door for the one that allows audio to be recorded better. Crazy thing is i did it on the water since the wind was non existent. What a bummer of a move.

The PA is a great playground. I just leaned extremely to far over the side. Keep all your weight over the yak and everything is good.
