Yes I get your point, it plays on their instincts. Now get everyone on this threads point, even with their instincts its not gonna happen every time, just like you said not every lion will chase you, not every blue will bite.
Do you understand what 100% means? This is dumb, im gonna just let it be like the rest.

Ok......I surrender. 99.9% of blues will bite a fresh live cut shad if another instinct isn't taking prevalence at the time.
Bottom line. Change your bait regularly.

Bottom line. Change your bait regularly. Man if they "bite" %100 of the time with live/fresh cut shad we would be called cathermen and not fishermen. Our frezzers would be stocked to the point of needing another frezzer
If i dont suceed i will die trying

I use FRESH shad --alive or dead--I change every 20 minutes if its dead..If using fresh shad slices cut from a large shad...then I change every 15 minutes in hot or cold water.. Same as you...you want an old steak that has been soaked or a nice fresh one to pick from... punch bait ..change more often..

I have many times used cut shad that were alive when I cut them, and also fresh iced down cut shad and both at the same time. I have never seen a noticeable difference between the two. Keeping shad alive is a job all in itself, icing them down is easy. I can guarantee that if I had seen a difference I would spend the extra effort to keep them alive. I have noticed with other baits, that keeping them alive then cutting them makes a difference. So when using those, I cut them alive. And I have also had days when shad was not on the blue cats menu(live cut or iced down) but they would hammer perch, or buffalo, or carp etc.
If you have confidence in what you are doing, then by all means use it to your advantage. Confidence in your method is probably the number one factor to being successful. +1 +2 DELETE THREAD

You hear people all the time go out on the lake and when they get back they say "nothing was biting". Wrong.....either they were using premanunfactured or "kitchen baits"......or there were no fish where they were fishing. It's really that simple.

If a blue is in the area.....he will bite a fresh live cut shad. If he is not in the area.....then he won't. Get Real! I know for a fact that several of the best boat fisherman on this forum, and others, have had big blues on the graph and couldn't get them to hit anything. When the fish feel like eating, they do! That's about the only guarantee you have in fishing....

Depends on water temp. Hot days.....no more than 10 min. Cold days you can stretch to 30 min.
This is the single most important topic in catfishing IMO. Shad loses its appeal quickly and if you understand that and utilize that information then your catch ratio will increase ten fold. I cut my shad while they are alive and if they are not bitten within 10 minutes during the summer then they are discarded. Period.
Fresh cut shad is like candy to a catfish. They will not turn it down EVER. no, it's not.

That's about the only guarantee you have in fishing.... A catfish is a swimming stomach. For them to not eat a fresh live cut shad then there wasn't a fresh live cut shad presented to them. We will have to agree to disagree. I am not telling anyone to use any bait or tactic. People can choose to use old ice shad or soap or whatever they want to catch catfish. I however will continue to use what works best.

Aw Hell. Just bait up with what you got. Change it 'bout every 30-45 minutes. Use different baits in the span of an hour. In your anchored; position. You dont get bit in the hour. Move somewhere else. Set up.

Mybrainisflied one Question ------ YOU limit EVERY TIME YOU GO OUT ????? Depends on the amount of fish I can locate that day. Average 30 to 50 a day. That of course was when my lake had water but we haven't been able to launch a boat in over two years.
