10. It's an easy drive from the DFW Metroplex.
9. There is a very good restaurant and convenient store located at the boat ramp. If you get hungry, take a break and eat a hot meal at the lakeside restaurant.
8. You can camp overnight at the launch site.
7. If it's windy you can usually find a calm cove. The lake is perfect for smaller boats.
6. It's not expensive. The boat launch and parking are FREE! The entry fee is only $60 a team ($30 a person for 2 man teams)
5. The weigh-in site is shaded under a big old cottonwood tree. Bring your lawn chair, relax and enjoy the weigh-in.
4. The lake has great bass habitat. Stumps next to the shore, grass, boat docks, and brush piles.....but it's also an easy lake to navigate. Getting to and from fishing holes is easy and stump free.
3. May weather is not too hot and not too cold. It's the time of the year to be outside.
2. Everyone has the same chance of winning no matter what your skill level is. Athens is a slot lake so it�s not always the best anglers who win. It�s usually the team that catches the biggest little bass!

1. Lake Athens is located right next to the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center / Fish Hatchery. TP&W take great pride in making sure Lake Athens one of the best bass lakes in Texas! There are so many bass in the lake that you are almost guaranteed to catch some nice ones! Be sure and bring your camera.
