I have a 2011 GMC Sierra 1500 and am wondering if it is possible to install a factory trailer brake controller. Not talking about an after market brake controller but the factory brake controller that is mounted in the lower trim next to the steering wheel. I know i would jave to change out that part of my dash to the kind that holds the brake controller, but is it even possible to install one on a truck that didnt come with it installed?

I don't believe so. There's a module that runs the controller that you would have to have as well. I'm unsure if the wiring harness has provisions to add the harness.

Just FYI, the module resides in the back around the spare tire. There is already another module called the FICM. The trailer brake module is the same exact module just different programming.

I don't think the integrated trailer brake is an available feature on the 1/2 tons. How you gonna get something factory that isn't a factory option?

A little late .. but I was talking to one of our techs who just bought a new truck a couple of months ago (2013 Chevy 1500) that came with a trailer brake module in it.

So .. yes, it is an option on the half tons to have a factory brake controller.
