Super excited to get back on the lake tomorrow. This will be my first fishing trip in boat I bought a few months ago. So, if ya'll see a 21' center console FishMaster with two knuckleheads in it, be sure to say hi.
I'm hoping to hit my goal of catching a big striper on my fly rod with one of my newly tied poppers. Looks like the wind isn't going to be as bad as it is today, so maybe I'll get to throw it.
With a NW wind, I was planning to start off the morning between Lowe's and Preston Pt throwing topwater against the rocky shoreline. Then, head for some flats to the NW.
Thoughts and suggestions are welcomed!!! I grew up fishing this lake. One of the first guides on the lake is one of my dad's best friends. But, I haven't been on big Tex in a while.

Well, it wasn't a complete loss. But, we only managed 2 fish. Both were caught in one of the small coves just outside of Lowes. We probably could have picked up a few more in that area, but the wind was cooperating. A few we're busting shad on top. But I picked up both on mine on slabs.
Gonna try to get back out in 2 weeks. Hoping for more topwater and less wind!
On our last spot, we fished just south of the islands in the river channel. We were marking a TON of stuff between 40-50ft. But, couldn't even get a hit. Don't know if it was fish on sonar or just stuff moving by on the river bottom. Any thoughts on that?

I graphed, castnetted a few, and then spotted 1000's of bullheads (carp like fish) by the islands, they surfaced a few hours before sunset. I guess they were spawning in the open water. I know Carp like to be up in the shallows, and I don't know anything about those big bullheads (except that the closely resemble a bunch of logs just below the surface).
