I see you are going in the morning and i don't know if anyone will get to you about that lake soon.
Do you catch your own bait or are you looking for channels?

If you already catch shad then you are on your way--
If it were me I would set out several lines from around 2 ft of water and space them out to deeper water and see where the bite is.
A lot of fish are being caught very shallow right now.
I don't know you yet so I hope this isn't useless info for you.
Different sizes of bait also to find what they want.
No matter where you end up fishing don't marry a spot even if you are banking it.
That's another thing please post if your in a boat or banking it, that will matter in any answer they give you.

I hope y'all get on some good fish but lots of guys here would love to fish with their dad again so I hope thats the best part of this trip for you.

And don't be shy about posting how it goes, good or bad fishing, thats how the guys here can learn how to help ya if you need/want help.

Enjoy!

Glad you had good times and got on some fish.
From your original post you stated you did "average".
Most of us would hope to at least be average most of the time, LOL.
Seriously, if you want to improve on whatever you are doing now just ask detailed questions and you will get more detailed help toward improving your chances of upping your catch, be it bigger sizes or bigger counts.
There is someone here who will say something that will help get ya on the right path.
We have bankers here that kick my butt in sizes and quantity and spend a fraction of money on gear that I have. Time on the water and good advise will change how you feel when you are done fishing for the day/night.
Just saying---
