Since ancient times humans have constructed footwear out of leather, and it is still doing a great job. Cowhide, Horsehide, kangaroo, crocodile/alligator, and ostrich: all have been used in footwear. Leather is tough, enduring, readily available, and just looks manly. If you don’t have a pair of leather shoes or boots for either work or casual wear, then here is a hint; you aren’t dressing appropriate. Okay, that’s an overstatement, but what everyone should be able to agree on is that for leather to last a long time you have to treat it well. How to care for leather boots on Rod and Rivet.

I was unaware that there were men who did not know how to either polish, saddle soap/mink oil a pair of boots.

Your post didn't have much substance. You have to look at the source and move on.

R&R, that's sure a nice write up. Obenhauf's LP is hands down the best conditioner/waterproofing product I've ever used. If you know of a way to polish on top of Obenaufs and get any sort of a shine I'd sure love to hear it. My only gripe about that stuff is that my boots turn into a dust magnet but I give up on trying to solve that and quit worrying about it. The waterproofing and revitalizing the leather is worth it even if it means wearing dusty boots.
At 58, I'm considered by some to be a grown man, but I learn new stuff just about every day. Now if I could just remember things... I didn't find out about Obenauf's until about a year ago when my 25 yo son got himself a pair of 1000 milers and went to researching the best way to care for them. His will probably last him the rest of his life.

I go with neatsfoot oil to soften them and condition. Then just a basic leather conditioner that has silicone for shoe shine and water repellancy. Still wear a pair of dress boots have had since 79. Man are they soft and shiny.

Obenhauf's uses Beeswax and other natural ingredients. Beeswax brings up the best shine. Clean with a warm damp cloth (it opens the pores), apply polish using classic spit shine techniques and you should see an incredible shine. Synthetics on leather seals the pores keeping the leather from breathing and increases the growth of bacteria from the inside out. I'm sure their website has some advice on applications, etc. Hope that helped.
Yep. I'm a woman who loves to fish. And sure you can load my boat for me. Hee Hee
