Iv used up to a 10/0 but the 7s seem to work just fine for me. Bait seems to live longer and swim better on the 7/0 and they handle big fish just fine as long as you have them tied to the right limb that has the right amount of bend to it.

I caught a 16# FH on TL last weekend with a hot dog. Just lucky I guess.

can be caught on dead bait especially in early spring, but if you are targeting flatheads you will do much better with live bait, I have found nothing better than a really big warmouth

When I set lines Im fishing for big fish. Hard to put 10 inch perch on a 7 or 10/O hook

I do use some 10/0 hooks in specific places where I use baits 8-12". Other than that I use a smaller hook.

have caught up to 40 lbs on rod and reel using a 5/0 bass hook with a huge warmouth

Caught a 73.3 on a piece of cutbait and a bass rod! Fishing for eaters when that heifer took it
