that could be a good thing if the fish follow the shad into the area

They work in certain situations. I prefer to use the Hydrowave on windy days with moving baits while fishing down banks. Stationary not so much so I turn it off.
Stress less, relax more. Go fishing.

I haven't seen a huge influx in the number of fish I catch, but I have had gar circle my trolling motor and loons swim up to it and dive. I would figure it has to help some if its realistic enough for gar and loons to be looking for the bait fish. I'm ready to try it out during the summer when the fish are in schools out deep.

we were fishing on Cedar Creek last week, I saw 4 loons about 100 yards or so from my boat, I told my buddy I would bet him a beer that I could call them over to my boat, he called bs, I turned my wave on frenzy shad and within a couple of minutes they were about 20 yards from the boat, Michelob Ultra sure was good.

I have had good results with mine. You need to use it and try it on different settings and sounds, and find what works best under different conditions. No doubt it works. In my opinion if you are not using one you are not catching all of the fish you could be catching.

How does the expansion modules work? Does it replace the standard 6 patterns or add 6 more?

I believe in them. This is my second one. Used in the right situation they work well.

How does the expansion modules work? Does it replace the standard 6 patterns or add 6 more? At the bottom of the unit there is a SD like card holder that has a cover with screws in it. You take that out and the new plug in goes in there and screws in also. It adds more options. Doesn't do away with you old ones. They are still there. Just wish there was an easier way to go through the menu. Instead of going through every one of them to get to the one you want. Shad activity definitely does pick up when it is on.

well they thought there were shad being eaten, they came to investigate, I don't think a fish is any smarter than a loon, or are they ?
