On a very cool note though:

At the pier I watched a Dad and son of a about 5 trying to get their line ready to go in the water.

Eventually the Dad calls me over and asks for help because he has never been fishing, never tied any knots etc and doesn't have the first clue about how to get started.

So this guy takes his son to the lake without a clue as to how to get started. But takes him anyway! That is a good dad.
I tied everything on for them and gave him some resources. They had a little crappie jig which I showed him how to fish. I told him best bet was to go get some worms and a little bobber and have a day of pulling perch out.

It was a very cool thing to see. I hope they stick with it.

Look up the neighborhood Windcrest off Walzem Rd and Montgomery. It's right across the street from an HEB. There's two nice ponds in there that have pretty good size fish. Probably one of the better places to go if you like pond fishing. Or the Woodlake Golf Course ponds are pretty fun too, and they don't mind you fishing them as long as you park in the little condo neighborhood and walk behind the course. That's off of FM78 right before Woodlake Middle School, acrossed the street from The Wash Tub, I think.

Blanco State Park is very good during sunrise and sunset for 2 reasons: great times to fish and great time to avoid swimmers. We've caught lots of catfish and bass over the years.
