I posted about two reels I had traded for and had turned into a refinish and fix project in an earlier post. These are older BPS "Bassmaster" reels. The first one I did in flat black and this is the second of those reels after paint.
The reels were disassembled completely and cleaned and scrubbed...each and every cover, gear, everything. Man these were dirty and gummy.
The covers were stripped, cleaned again, deep scratches filled in with JB Weld (Bondo won't stick to plastic), sanded and primed with plastic primer. The reel in these pics was painted with Rustoleum Metallic enamel can spray paint, and clear coated with Rustoleum Clear enamel can spray paint. Then after curing a few days I sanded wet sanded them with 600 grit paper and then used swirl remover polishing compound to get the glossy sheen. Reassembled and lubed them and they're like new reels again.
I know its a lot of work for a couple of old reels, but I really enjoyed making them from go from toss asides to nice looking and fully functional reels.

The first Edition - Flat Black with one of the original reels
2nd edition - Metallic blue w/ black nose piece
Not bad for some spray paint & elbow grease for a beginner
This reel was in the worst shape of the two before I started. But I'm pleased with the result
