Hi I usually fish from the jetties in Galveston, I am looking to start kayak fishing. So I am looking for a first budget kayak
questions would a sit-ontop or a sit-in kayak be better for surf/bay fishings
I was thinking about the Pelican Icon 120 any thoughts/suggestions?

Sit on top, and at the minimum 12ft, I'd go 14ft, I don't know what a pelican icon 120, but if your trying save, ocean kayaks have good kayak
12+ft sit on top kayak

OK Drifters can be found pretty cheap and are great in the surf

Ocean & cobra, make the best surf yaks IMO. Buy used to save money. Don't buy cheap new. Guys are upgrading all the time. Siton top is the ONLY way to go beyond the breakers Unless u like to wear skirts

From my experience I don't know of any low budget kayaks that are acceptable quality for off shore fishing.
I started with the Ocean Kayak Big Game which is wide and under 13 feet long. A very stable kayak in off shore conditions. The Cobra Fish and Dive is even more stable than my BG and about the same size. I prefer the Sit on Top style myself but SinK (Sit in Kayaks) have been used for centuries but, again, avoid the lower quality SinKs for off shore. You can find the good boats on Craig's list and other online venues and TKF has a sale section. I got my son-in-law a Big game with rudder and seat for $500.00 4 years ago, mine new was $1,000.00.
Try the BTB (Beyond the Breakers) forum on Texas Kayak Fishing and you can find some very valuable info on yaks. Also the Old Timers will gladly give you good advice.
Remember when you start off shore it can sometimes be a long difficult paddle back and the other shore is too far to help.
