I was recently shipped a new Okuma Trio 40 to test out. When I got the reel and took a look at it I realized at first glance that it had a very sleek and almost retro look to it. It was Black and somewhat dark charcoal gray. Upon closer examination, it actually was very modern and progressive looking.

The new Trio 40 was actually shorter than my VS-30 by about a half an inch but with much greater line capacity. This well balanced reel held 170 yards of 12lb. The new Okuma Trio - Crossover Technology crossover design technology allows for the reel to be strong and light at the same time.

I took the reel out to field test on some of our Texas Largemouths and it performed really well. I was very impressed. The reel was really smooth on the retrieve and the drag is phenomenal. Braided line will not be an issue for these reels. The line comes off the spool really well with very little resistance. This translates to great casting even with light weight.

The reel comes in various sizes:
Trio-20 $74.99
Trio-30 $74.99
Trio-40 $79.99
Trio-55 $89.99

For the money, this reel is awesome and you cannot beat it for the price. I definitely recommend this reel if you are in the market for one. I have some pictures that I will add to this later.

You can feel free to ask me any questions if you have one. You can also visit the main site for other products. www.okumafishingteam.com

I cam accross this thread doing a search for these reels. I am looking for a new freshwater bass spinning reel as well as a saltwater.
I am considering the Trio 20 for fresh and the 40 for salt. Besides the line capacity, is there a huge differenct in the size. I may split the difference and get two 30-s but don't want to look like I am going off-shore on the lake and visa versa.

I have also read some pretty harsh reviews about the gears grinding out and locking up. Has this been consistent?

I stand by there downrigging reels and spinning reels. For the price they can't be beat and only brand I will buy.

I guess my real question is how much size difference is there between the 30 and 40?
