In another thread today there has been discussion on low lake levels and water supplies for the Dallas area. I was in the discussion because Lower Bois D Ark Creek reservoir is something I know a bit about. I am an Inspector for NTMWD and will be inspecting several things during the construction phase of the lake in about a year. How valuable would it be to be able to walk around in those bottoms with a handheld GPS? Or maybe while they are clearing suggest.... maybe a special brushpile on a special creek channel turn?

With a handheld GPS and a camera you could likely make some good money in the future.

I know that it is my intention to do what I spoke of but for personal info and great fishing spots when it fills. There was a guy online that did something like this with Fork.. I think it was Martin's Maps. They had arial of Fork at several different filling stages.

The maps and pics back on those days were pretty helpful. But with todays Bing maps, good map cards for electronics, side imaging, I am not sure of how much good walking the bottoms would do.

My thing is really going to be getting in with the guys who are clearing and see if I can manipulate a few special brush piles and GPS them.

if nothing else, I think it would be pretty cool. Knowledge is always better than lack-thereof. My thing is really going to be getting in with the guys who are clearing and see if I can manipulate a few special brush piles and GPS them. this would be pretty sweet, too.

My thing is really going to be getting in with the guys who are clearing and see if I can manipulate a few special brush piles and GPS them. Water currents would affect that a lot.

How much of the lake are they going to clear? Have they already started clearing areas? I see a lot of log trucks up that way. I sure hope the water shed can keep this lake full.

I did this by motorcycle before Fork filled. The hardest part is knowing how deep the water will be where you are standing pre fill. An accurate altimeter for elevation and known pool level are necessary or you may end up with many of your great looking spots being too deep. Don't ask how I know

Up in West by God Virginia they have flood control lakes that they drop in the fall almost 150 feet(summersville lake) and I took videos of the lake bottom with GPS marked for return in the spring and have a head start towards finding "structure" and fish holding to it.

It is my understanding that several of the creeks that will be feeding it are spring fed. Bois D Ark creek feeds the Sulpur River and Ive never seen it not running a little bit. As far as clearing I think it is going to be treated a lot like Fork.

Better yet, take you some big rocks and pile them up! But remember to camo them with something, so only you know where they are. It'll attract em better than the millions of sticks that will be there.

You should have them place or build structure in places that would be overlooked. You could have them build you secret spots, like a hump, drop off, or deep hole in the middle of a creek arm or cove where all the fish will go to when the place gets pounded after being opened.
