I'm fixing to but a new Minn Kota Trollling motor for my 07 Champion 183CX. I haven't even really started looking at them. What are some pros and cons of the different one out there. I have seen the I-pilot and like the idea of hands free/foot free. Any one experience these? I hate having to move away from a trolling motor in high winds to go to the back of the boat, or dig in a compartment. I like the idea of the auto position lock feature. What all do I need with the trolling motor and is there only one trolling motor that works with the I-pilot? Thanks for any info.

If you fish heavy timber avoid the Terrova, I have one and yes it's great in open water but its a pain in the rear in heavy brush. Too noisey and too slow for the constant turning.

Minn Kota Fortrex all the way. Best trolling motor on the market IMO.

What are you going to be doing with it? I love my Terrova 101# because of all the features and I can run it from anywhere in the boat while my clients fish the bow.
If you are looking for a Fortrex, I have a 2009 model in excellent condition, that I would sell. It is a 36v 101# foot operated model.

The Terrova with the I-pilot is outstanding for the kind of fishing I do...which is primarily open deep water fishing. It is tough as nails, dependable as clockwork, and with the I-pilot it revolutionized my fishing.

I'm wanting one that I can have to spot lock on it... I fish mostly open water/banks. not much weaving in between timber. but occasionally I will. What kind of price am I looking at for the complete set up? 70-90ftlb.

I spent 10 Days on the Red River last week in the stumps with my Terrova and loved it. And was very durable and I sure beat the heck out of it and it kept going and going. Put any doubts to rest for me for sure.

In the past few years I've owned the PowerDriveV2, a Terrova and now a Fortrex. You need to realize the Fortrex is a cable steer unit while the other two are electric steer. Huge difference depending on your type/style of fishing. Fortrex is much more responsive, much quieter and the mount is far superior to anything else on the market. BUT, if you want 'spot lock' or any of the other electronic features you are going to be looking at a Terrova.
