I was carp fishing this evening at Sunshine lake in Weatherford....I was down on a secluded sandy beach that had a little bitty shallow cove that cut the beach almost in half. Four times within an hour, a bunch of fish simultaneously surfaced and started flouncing really hard within and only in that small cove. It was almost violent. It created a rolling, splashy wave maybe 6ft long and 4-5ft wide and they continued that way for a few feet before it stopped. I've never seen this at any other lake. I only caught a brief glance of them...they looked silver/white? There was quite a few of them it seemed. Any ideas what they are? And why they do that?

I'm going back tomorrow hoping to see it again.

I fish sunshine a lot, it was either carp or the big gizzard shad spawning!

Actually, you're probably right on the gizzard shad. I've been told when they feel threatened when they're spawning and in groups, they'll make a lot of commotion and it appears to be something bigger to frighten off predators. Sure freaked me out---don't think it was carp, unless they decide to move in schools? Never seen any of them do that.

I'm heading back to Sunshine this morning. Beautiful park, secluded area. Great place smile

I have seen sand bass do that also, when they're feeding.

I managed to snatch some out of the water. They were gizzard shad...and a lot of them. Pretty cool watching them do that! I think I startled them every time I'd get close....because it'd be dead silent until I walked up and it was like turning a blender on.
