I'm fishing wright patman catfish are shallow been fishing a slip bobber on a telescopic pole a cheep one from academy today it met it's match broke in half. Does anyone have a thought on a good pole that will take the heat that a 4 or 5 lb cat being pulled out of brush will dish out?

So, what are you using for bait under the slip bobber? Those fish would be hard to pull out of that brush with a crappie pole. laugh

I'm using punch bait. Out of 34 fish only had 4 that I could leave whole the rest were to big for that. Also we lost 4 that snaped 15LB test line that I put on new this fishing season and one that broke my crappie pole

Those catfish pull HARD!! Probably a great time trying to wrestle them out of that brush. grin

One thing I can think that would work for you are the surf rods they sell at academy. Some of them are pretty long and they're pretty beefy. I think you could wrangle them with those big poles.

I just looked and this is a 10' salt water ugly stick

Ugly Stick $79.99

Thanks! The window for these catfish will probably only last for three or four weeks then it seems that the smaller ones take over the lake but the little whole ones are the best eating like corn on the cob.

Ugly Sticks is good, and some heavier line. May need a reel too.

Thanks I have two Ugly Sticks and they have the BEEF in them. Also I just put some new 20LB test Sufix neon line on the reels I don't know much about the line but time will tell.

Are bamboo poles tougher than fiberglass?
