I've had them go both ways on me. had someone argue the tounge patch with me, but gave up when I broke out the book.

sand bass -v notch tail..lateral line at gill to tail base,stripes even rows top down,notched top rear fin,one tooth patch..have caught many sand bass that look like his. hybrids give away is a wide flat end tail..No v shape notch in tail... stripes- Even row lines on side going down to broken lines to belly,flat square slope on top rear fin.side by side tooth row patch.sand bass heads snout is more pointed and hybrids is more blunt

Just get a white 5 gallon bucket and you can keep anything you catch. 6 inches on up. I see it all the time. Just kidding! I am just ranting because it seems like every time I go fishing I see somebody doing just that.
