I'm looking for suggestions on hooks/jig heads. I finally ordered a couple of 5 wires and I need to add swim baits. Some say jig heads and other say swim bait hooks. What say the experts? Thanks.

I am no expert because I have just started throwing this bait or baits if you will, I have been using a #4 worm hook, Trokar or what ever you use and 5" cain thumpers, you can pull that thing through any trees.
I am blessed to have a opportunity to live a childhood dream as a professional wrestler

I started using the swimbait style hooks that have the hooks that are protected in the swimbait. I lost too many "striking" fish. It is hard to feel the fish and then set the hook on the Ala. Rig. So I went to the exposed jig style hooks and it works much better. I got some of the heavy duty saltwater style jig hooks and the small saltwater paddle tail baits at Bassproshops. I can still upgrade to the larger minnow style with these 1/4 oz or 1/8 oz jig hooks. I have seen some of the specialty Ala Jig Hooks for some very high prices!

I like a heavy exposed hook, only because some of the thinner wired hooks on the pre-rigged baits berkley and others make tend to bend out fairly easy if you hang it in any wood...makes it easy to get it unhung, but damages the bait.
I been using the heavier exposed jig heads by either buckeye, buckeye, sixth sense, or hammer.

Santone makes some jig heads with virtual meat hooks to go on their "Slamma-Rig". You can pick them up in stores or contact Kathy and she will be glad to help you out. I wish I had a picture of one to show you. These are definately the jig heads you want if you are around some big fish!

Thanks guys. I'll see what BPS has in the 1/4 or 1/8th oz jig heads this afternoon.

I bought one of those Yum Kits that have the jig heads and swimbaits all in one box. Seems to be working pretty good.

I like the 4 inch storms baits. Hooks are fine and not to hard on you throwing it for awhile....

I like the Strike King swimbait hooks on TW. $3.99 per pack and they are sharp as heck with a good solid wire.
Saved by the Lord... glad to be an Aggie!

I think the ones made by oldham are the best! They are real strong and wont bend and they have a weedguard. I have tried many others but they bend way to easy.

Some of these "A-Rig" Jigheads are just Saltwater models slapped with a new name and mark the $ up. With that said, I've been using these for years for Reds and Trout: http://www.academy.com/webapp/wcs/stores...0173-01177-0020 Hogie's Jigheads. Cheap, strong, and made with a Gammy hook.
