On my yak, I use a cheep foam surfboard thing for kids I bought at the dollar store; put some 50# mono loops to hold the line and lay it on the left side of the yak, connected by a clip to one of the tie downs; the stripped line will lay on the foam instead of going in the water where it hangs on vegetation, stickups, or is blown by the wind; it can be flipped out of the way if needed; very useful in windy conditions and when there's a lot of vegetation in the water-p-

Always a good idea to keep fly line from getting tangled... My float tube has that basket built on it.. But I need one for bank fishing

Have you tried forming a series of loop in your stripping hand? Make the loops about 3"-5" diameter. When casting, point your finger tips toward the guide and, if done correctly, the line will come of your finger tips like it would come off a spinning reel. Takes practice.

Pearow: I am trying to picture that contraption in salt water and keep thinking it might look like a HUGE Crease fly to a bull shark.
Have fun with this stuff.
PS Sounds like a great idea tho.

I often use a stripping basket when fishing from the bank or in the boat. When in the kayak I strip the line into the floor between my legs. Robin, you know too much about Harry Hines for my liking!!!

ok; after seeing these ya'll will know that I'm a redneck from Arkansaw but these are various methods I've used in my prowler to keep stripped line from getting hung up on vegetation in the water, or being blown overboard and getting under the yak, etc. Its hard to fish when your line is all tangled on something. I'm right handed so these fit on the left side of my yak, where my left hand strips the line. They are tied on the seat strap or on the various yak tie downs; they can be pushed out of the way when paddling or disconnected and put behind the seat when not being used. The first one is a simple net bag($1 at the dollar store), with noodle pieces inside. The mono loops keep the line from sliding off into the water. the second one is a cheep backbrace for the car seat, which cost a buck at the dollar store; note the piece of noodle affixed to the top to make if float in the water; the green plastic ties is what I use to attach it to yak. finally, this is the one I use most; just a piece of foam. I put two or three loops of mono to prevent the line from sliding off into the water(one with the loops is in the yak and I can't easily get to it right now) but you can get the picture [IMG] [URL=http://s220.photobucket.com/user/pearow/media/P5010037-1_zps98351373.jpg.html] I only use these when I have a lot of vegetation in the water, when the wind is blowing, and when I'm needing to make long casts; fishing with light rods I generally just let the line lay in my lap. They can be stored pretty easy when not in use. Hope this helps-p-
