I have a 1198 and 998 that I would like to interlink. Besides the interlink itself, what do I need to order? Would like to be able to read depth at speed and was told there is a "Y" cable that needs to be purchased with a thru the hull puck. Any info? if your set up follows suit, your 2 d images will suffer greatly, everyone I have seen with that set up has poor 2 d returns. the fish ID symbol function doesnt work correctly either. I can understand the reason for wanting to know the depth you are running in, but cant you just look at your map card and see the depth? If your unsure of how deep it is.. do u really want to be running thru it in the first place? not trying to be critical here. just trying to understand . why do you need to hammer down, and run around the lake seeing how deep it is. ? If you test location and find the best location very minimal if any sonar is lost when shooting thru fiberglass. Best way to test is to add a couple inches of water to the bilge build a small sand bag with a ziploc and go to the lake and test different locations to find the area of best returns. You don't want to guess and shot thru an area with an air void or delamination or that have turbulence under it this would effect sonar readings. I've personally run this way since 2003 and have seen little if any loss of performance.

I have recently just begun having a problem with my 1198 at the console losing bottom on mid-high speed runs. My setup is as follows: two 1198s connected by ethernet, with separate gps antennae, and y cable for transducers for the console unit, with the si/di transducer mounted on the hull, and the shoot thru hull transducer inside sump area of my Ranger Z521, installed at Ranger factory. The boat and units are three years old and have always read fine up until now for showing bottom depth and readout correctly on the 2d view. As Doug has suggested, for runs across the lake, i use the split screen view of map and 2d sonar. Does it matter if the 2d is in clear mode or max mode in regards to readouts at high speed? What are some possible causes for the readout to be intermittenly failing all of a sudden on digital and 2d readout when it has always worked fine in the past three years? Shoot thru hull transducer going out?

have u made any changes to your boat that ould change anything, like power pole, swim platform, jackplate , ect?
COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

Shoot thru hull transducer going out? Transducers do go bad and they do come loose from the hull due to hull flexing. Check to see if it has come loose from the hull. It is feels solid, put some water in the hull to see it that will fill in any void between the transducer face and hull to see if that is the issue.

Thanks Wayne. My very first boat mechanic always said to "always look for the simplest solution first" when trying to fix a problem. My thru the hull transducer is not going to be easy to get to, as above it are four 31 series heavy batteries with wires everywhere. Since it still may be under extended warranty, i am going to give my ASD a shout out to trace this. Thanks.

Doug My set up has been working flawlessly for almost three years. Does it matter for high speed runs whether i use Max mode or clear mode to maintain good bottom reading? What about frequency or transducer settings?

Switchfire does not change for High Speed. But running 200kHz only will hold bottom better in aerated conditions than 83kHz or combines 200/83kHz since it haa a wider coverage increases the odds of reading aeration or turbulence in the water and can impact high speed sonar transmission and reception.

Not sure where to start looking? I run a 798ci SI on the console and just recently installed a 788 HD DI on the bow.First time on the water this year and Im getting a low voltage pop up on the 798.The 788 is not.I installed two new optima 31M's also. Both units are powered off the same battery.Any suggestions?

Did you run individual wires driect from each unit to the battery? Solder Connections and I recommend 14 Gauge Wire. Or did you use existing boat wiring?

Doug I ran the 798 direct to battery, all joint soldered and shrink wrapped. The 788 off of the power side of the bilge and aerator switch panel on the bow.The 798 has been on the boat for about two years.I was just wondering if the terminals in the mount could have some corrosion build up on them and how would one go about cleaning it?The 788 came with a slip cover for the mount for use when the unit was not plugged in,the 798 did not.

Pins are Gold Plated to Resist Corrosion. I would double check the power connections. Also do you have the Alarm Set in the Master Menu under Alarms higher than the 788c? If not call HB Customer Service 800-633-1468 they can help for sure
