Last time I was fishing at the LMF I took a nice dip, more like a full on dunking, into the spillway creek... that woke me up. Lucky the only thing really bruised was my ego but I guess it has happened to most of us. I didn't have my phone on me or my camera but my wallet and keys got a nice bath. This got me to thinking... what do you guys that bring your phones, cameras, etc with you wadding use for protection. Would you feel safe using a zip lock bag for a nice camera or phone or is there something you guys use and recommend. Thanks in advance.

I use a forage sampling bag with a zip top closure. That's based on availability more than any well thought out plan. I'd think a gallon freezer Ziplock would be fine, as long as you make sure to seal it.

I've lost two I-phones to the lake gods. I now keep my phone in a life proof case with one of the floating covers. If you're going to get real active I would recommend one of the pelican type cases.

If your looking for a low cost dry container, look at some of the empty mayonnaise or other condiment type plastic jars you probably already have in your cupboard. I use a squarish mayonnaise jar I saved (after using the mayonnaise) and it works great! The one I got is not overly big at all, but it has a wide opening. The jar itself is clear so it's easy to find stuff inside. I can stash my phone, wallet, keys, lighter/smokes, fishing license and even a small box of flies and hook remover type pliers all in the one container. Once the lid is screwed shut it is totally water proof and it floats!! When bank fishing I just throw it in a pouch on a small folding chair I use. But I mainly use it when I'm out kayaking.
I also agree with the above mention of the Life Proof case. I have mine for about 3 years now and it still works great! I have never had it leak and I have put mine through heavy water type use. I have shot many under water videos and could not imagine even taking my phone on a kayak now without that case. It is by far the best accessory I have ever bought for my phone.

Thinking of getting a waterproof camera because I know sooner or later my phone is going to go swimming.

I, like others have made mention of, have lost an Iphone to the water. Since then I now have a lifeproof case. I also have the life jacket for it. Yup. I am a believer in the "two is one and one is none" when it comes to safety measures. The life jacket has a lanyard I sling and it works out well for me. Pretty much worry free. (As long as the lanyard doesn't break and it floats away down river faster than I can swim.)

There are a number of good dry or water resistant bags that are designed for cell phones. We used to have one specifically made for the I-Phone... A box gets bulky, so look for one that is made of flexible material. In the shop, we have a couple that are made by Fishpond.

I just use a ziploc bag inside the waterproof pocket on my vest.
If it gets wet through that, I've got bigger problems than my phone getting wet...
