Sunday April 28, 2013 @ 10:15 AM-Lake Austin I knew that the sharelunker program was going to end in just a few days. Called a buddy of mine up and said that I am going to Lake Austin and will be off the water by noon. I will only be throwing big baits and I was in search for a big girl. The morning started out with a 2.5 on the first cast with a double up rig. Kept moving up river trying to find better water without all the [censored] floating in it. One area ended up catching about 10 in all with two about 3 lbs each and one pushing 4. Decided to make the run back south around 10 am and that proved to be the best decision of the day. Was throwing the umbrella rig, rigged with big swimbaits in about 18-20 fow. My buddy just started speaking when I set the hook and cut him off just as he started his sentence. Missed him, must have swiped at the bait. I threw back out and asked him what he was going to say and he repeated that it was about time for one of us got bit. I let the rig sink all the way to the bottom. After it fell to the bottom I pumped it up and began the slow retrieve back. After about 8-10 turns of the handle the rod just loaded up. I turned to him and said, dude this is a big fish and told him to get the net ready. However, after a few seconds something did not seem right.....The fish made surges like that of a striper, just like the 35lb one I caught at TTZ, but they were more of short bursts. Told him that this did not seem right, she was not coming up at all, but was staying down with more steady surges and not coming up. I then told him that it was probably a damn big ol catfish, since it was not coming up. I kept the rod low and continue to slowly reel. As the fish began to emerge from the depth, we both saw the shininess of the fish and it was at that time that my heart began to sink, because my worst fear had come to fruition and it was another damn striper. However, has the fish became more clearer I noticed that it was kinda funny looking, looked kinda like the Letter L facing downward and then it became apparent that it was not a striper and NOT one fish BUT TWO, bass and they were huge. My buddy laid the net in the water and as the fish came to the surface they just came together like a pair of skis and just glided right into the net. I could not beleive my eyes. Not one but TWO freaking largemouth. I let out the biggest holler, more than once I tell you and still could not beleive my eyes. Then the elusive shakes set in on what had just happend. One came in at 11.8 lbs and the other at 7.8 lbs. Oh man, 19lbs, one cast, two fish. The 11.8 was not spawned out but the 7.8 was. Both fish were releasde and swam away healthy so that someone else may enjoy the catch. The month of April has been a true blessing to me, 6th at FLW and now my first DD and new personal best. Now to find a taxidermist to get a replica made. Fish were weighed on a Cul-M-Rite Digital scale and were previously checked with the weight of two different items with scales from two different HEB scales for accuracy. It was spot on.

Politicians, baseball players, high-powered corporate CEO's they all seem to eventually let us down. Nature, however, does not. Look to her for inspiration and you will learn the secrets to living a good life. The most Important lesson it would seem is to make sure you spend as much time fishing as anything else.
