^^ It's our tax dollars that are feeding and housing the people. I feel that they do owe us! It took tax dollars to pay the judge, jurors, police and so on.

Welfare recipients will never be forced to work for their money. As a mater of fact, neither will individuals getting unemployment pay. I heard a guy talk about this in the past. As soon as you start putting these people to work, a certain number of these individuals would get hurt on the "job". Then the state would have to start paying hospital, disability, etc. Some of these "hurt" individuals would sue the state also.
Then you have an even bigger mess.

Agreed!!! They should not be laying around watching cable or playing cards in the A/C............... Put 'ejavascript: void(0)m to work!!! Truly pay their debts to society! Guess I'm old school, and much like Arizona/N Mexico (forgotten which) YES, resoundingly yes. They have a debt to pay and it really chaps me at least to think of them laying around and doing nothing, so Like Sherriff Joe, PUT THEM TO WORK> As a kid, I remember the 'chain gangs', and I really believe those guys did NOT want to go back. Menial/manual labor sure won't hurt them so, why not? http://texasfishingforum.com/forums/images/icons/default/lightbulb.gif

I just wrote TPWL a check for $1625 and they are broke--cute.
The local lakes are swarming with wardens. They can't seem to see the waterturd on jet ski yesterday afternoon running his jet ski WOT all over the no wake zone at the Ft Sam launch area. When I told the waterturd it was a no wake zone he replied with gunning his jet ski as fast as he could go with a small child on back.
They could not seem to find the family camped out on the Turkey Cove launch ramp for three hours. Really. Literately had trailered jets skies parked on the ramp and their crumb munchers (5 of them) all swimming at the end of the launch ramp like it was a recreation area. Even my 14-year old ask if that was dangerous.
Wardens can always seem to find me and check my boat, license, boat registration, life jackets blaa, blaa, blaa. They want to make sure I have paid my fees. Easier target?
And no dock to tie up on many of the local lakes or trash being collected properly. Someone is getting paid and bleeding the system.
Where does that money go? You don't need to answer that.

No, bad idea. Such menial (and essentially unpaid) labor is both degrading and demoralizing. I know! After all, it's societies fault they were put in prison because they were not provided enough opportunity/handout/redistribution.

Late last year, we shot an episode of Fishing University with Charlie Ingram on the new Carroll County 1000 Acre Lake. A few of the buildings in the park were still being constructed and all of the labor was in orange jumpsuits from the TN prison system. I thought this was an incredible use of a "resource" and Charlie said it was pretty common around there. After seeing this and reading the other thread about TPWF cutbacks, I truly believe this is something our state needs to look into. I love everything about Texas and think we have some of the best lakes and parks in the world. That being said, though, take one trip to Tennessee and compare their facilities to ours...you would be blown away! http://carrollcounty-tn-chamber.com/lake_updates-2012.htm

Good idea to put inmates to work but you still have to pay and keep all your employees on staff and therefore the state parks are still in the same situation... They will accomplish more tasks per day but remain in the red financially...

Yes, a superb idea, indeed. There's nothing I like more than seeing a swarm of criminals at my vacation spots. Perhaps we should ship in extra mosquitoes, too.
