I've never drifted in water less than 5 ft.,but I do have a spot during certain times of the year I'll drift in 5 to 10 ft. and do well. 2 oz. weight, 24 to 36 inch leader with a float a few inches from the hook.

From what I have heard. Put out about three times as much line as you normally would drifting.

Let out LOTS of line and be sure you don't hang up your drift sock or drift chute. Sometimes you gotta think outside the box to put fish in the boat.

My most productive way of fishing is drift fishing,...but I dont have a drift sock. I find a depth upwind I want to drift, knowing which way the wind is going to push me, then keep the wind at 90 degrees, put my outboard down, that slows the rear end from swinging around and use my front trolling motor tapping it into the wind to keep me at a 90. Works for me in any depth. I do put out about 2 and half casts worth of line out. The cove, point has to be ideal for the wind direction,.. but thats never been a problem unless its too windy.
