Anybody bought one of the new light weight reels. I look at them online, but didn't see any on display at the two stores I have been in. I figured they would be like BPS light weight reels (carbonlite), but they are centrifical, not magnetic. I have 7 or 8 of the BPS carbonlites

I figured I would weight till they go on sale, they are 129 on the website reg price. The academy reels are good reels, I bet these new ones are nice too.

Thanks, Billy

Was in a Academy yesterday, they had one. I looked at it, jury is still out. It was light, handle to small and seemed rough wen I spun the spool. It may have slicked up if it was oiled up, I need to go back to the store when I have more time and look at them again.

Thanks, Billy

all of the super light weight reels feel like that because there is not enough weight in the spool and handle to allow it to spin fast and free when you just rip the handle and let it spin or release the clutch and thumb spin the spool...but how often do you do that while fishing? I have thrown those out as tests I use while checking out new reels.

There's no way I would spend $129 on an Academy brand reel. There's way too many choices of better reels at that same price. Just my opinion.

Lew's is one that comes to mind and I agree. Only argument against that though is if you ever have any problems with the H20 Academy will replace it no questions asked.

I wish there was a way to know who makes them for Academy.

That is a steep price to pay for a store brand reel. Especially when you can get a Curado for the same price or less.

Look at Johnny Morris reels, and how many Bass Pro sells. And you don't even get the same features as you do with the Mystic.

What features? They look pretty similar to me except the BPS reel has both CF and Mag breaking and comes in 3 different ratios.

And to those questioning the cost, find another sub 6 oz reel (besides the BPS CL) for even close to the same price.

I was told that the H2O reels had Shimano guts in them...not sure if that is true or not, but it came from a pretty knowledgeable source.

I beat the hell out of the 30$ reel it rides in my bay boat all the time. I never take it out of the boat.
