Funny thing happened this morning. Was fishing a Houston area pond bank style, throwing some big Swimbaits, because we figured the pressured fish hadn't seen them before. My buddy has a huge blowup 2 feet from the bank. A four foot long nose gar comes flying out of the wate, damn near hits my buddy's feet, snaps his 25 lb fluoro, and flops back in the water. Luckily, the big swimbait landed on the bank three feet to his right after sailing ten feet in the air. Visibly shaken, he looks at me and says, "So I am officially not throwing my three figure glide bait in here...ever." I reminded him that I had seen a DD on a bed in this pond two years ago. His response: "NEVER THROWING THAT BAIT IN HERE, EVER."

So is he Scared of a lil ole Gar or that lure expensive?

ahh!! Fishing our "Southern Muskie" are ya? Once you fight a Longnose Gar and see them jumping like a Tarpon, it's hard to go back to regular fish. And yes, they will come in close to chase a lure. And when they jump..completely...out of the water, it's really something to see!

Lure is crazy expensive. I don't blame him. Let me put it this way: if I pitched this bait without expressed written consent from my wife ahead of time, I would be short one testicle once the credit card bill came in...
